Working from Monforte
Some things only make sense once you've lived them. Working in a small town, with people around, is one of them.

When you tell someone from outside that you work from Monforte de Lemos, the most common response is a polite silence. It’s not dismissal — it’s just that it doesn’t fit the image they have of modern work: big cities, open offices, cafés full of laptops.
But some things only make sense once you’ve lived them.
What changes when place matters
Working in a small city isn’t a compromise. It’s a choice that comes with things most big cities have quietly given up: knowing the baker by name, getting anywhere in ten minutes, having real quiet when you need it.
What’s sometimes missing is structure. Not schedules or managers, but place. Somewhere that isn’t home, where putting your headphones on doesn’t mean isolation, and running into someone isn’t accidental.
Rizoma grew out of that need. Not as a response to a trend, but because there were people here who needed it.
The community you weren’t looking for
One of the things that surprises people most when they first come is that they weren’t looking for community and they find it anyway. There are no mandatory activities or group dynamics. It’s simply that sharing a space with people working on very different things opens conversations.
Someone designing websites talks to someone writing about heritage. A freelance accountant meets someone who’s been trying to build something in rural Galicia for years. That sort of thing.
Not all of it leads anywhere. But some of it does.
Why Monforte
Monforte has something that’s hard to put into words. It sits in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, surrounded by a landscape people travel specifically to find — one that those of us who live here sometimes stop seeing because it’s always there.
There’s history on every corner, and yet it isn’t saturated. No overcrowding. Room to live and to work without the two things getting in each other’s way.
Rizoma is in the center of town, a short walk from everything. The fiber is solid. So is the coffee.
The rest, you’ll figure out when you get here.
